San Francisco Sights

Sixty years ago, one of these five would have been wrongly imprisoned on this island, one would have run the place, one would have helped the wrongfully imprisoned one successfully escape, one would have helped rehabilitate the prisoners left behind, and one would have helped shut the joint down.  Who is who?
