Engagement Opportunities, Spring 2014

This semester's seven Honors-incentivized, university-sponsored academic, fine arts, and cultural engagement opportunities are:
1. The Ramadan Research Symposium (Tuesday, January 30th)
2. Honors Night at the French Film Festival (Friday, February 7th)
3. Honors Road Trip to the Samurai Exhibit at the Kimbell Museum of Art in Fort Worth (Wednesday, February 26th)
4. Aquila Theatre Presents:  Fahrenheit 451 (Thursday, March 6th in the Ataloa)
5. Honors Night at the Scissortail Creative Writing Festival (7 pm, Friday, April 4th in the Estep)
6. Honors Student Association Caucus and Election (Monday, April 7th)
7. Honors Spring Showcase (Tuesday, April 22nd).

Other upcoming engagement opportunities:
1. Thursday, March 6-7-8: A Very Potter Musical.
Support our fellow honors student, Zach Garcia, as he portrays Harry Potter in A Very Potter Musical, which he is also directing and producing. The musical will be in the Dorothy Summers Theatre. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 on March 6th and 7th. On the 8th ,the doors open at 8 p.m., and the show begins at 8:30. Admission is free to everyone. It promises to be magical; don’t miss out! Pick up a point by going while you’re at it!

2. Thursday, March 11 at 7:00: Tuskegee Airmen.
Have the privilege of welcoming Colonel Charles McGee, USAF, Retired, one of the WWII Tuskegee Airmen, as the featured speaker for the 6th Annual Louise Young Diversity Lecture! The lecture will take place in the Ataloa Theatre. Colonel McGee was a part of the first African-American groups of aviators in the second World War. He went on to serve in Korea and Vietnam as well and is a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. The event is free and open to everyone, and a book signing will follow.

How to Score Points

2. Two hours of community service above the four required hours: 1 point
3. Publish something in Originals, ECU’s literary journal: 1 point
4. Attend an Honors-incentivized academic, fine arts, or cultural event on campus: 2 points
5. Win a scholarship to the Nigh Leadership Academy: 5 points
6. Make a presentation off-campus at a regional academic event: 5 points
7. Make a presentation off-campus at a national academic event: 10 points
8. Publish an original academic article in regional journal: 10 points
9. Publish an original academic article in national journal: 20 points
