OAS Internships and Funny Atlatl Pics!
Dr. Ken Andrews and the Perspectives from Science honors course took a day off of class to enjoy a tour on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Leland Bement gave a tour in his neck of the woods at the Oklahoma Archaeological Survey. Dr. Bement has worked at the survey for 19 years and is currently researching past environments in the North American Great Plains and the Paleoindian way of life. He showed the excavated bison skeletons he's currently working to reconstruct to help piece together their hunting activities. To wrap up, Dr. Bement demonstrated how Paleoindians would have hunted using an atlatl, which propels a spear much further than one could throw. Each student got a turn to try it out (as did Dr. Andrews, so watch your behavior in his classes; he knows how to spear you now). It was a good afternoon in Norman! If you're interested in an internship with Dr. Bement, you can contact him by clicking here. #becausehonors

Hip Hip, Parade!
Three cheers for HSA getting third place in ECU's Homecoming competition! Our fearless leaders Miranda McNabb and Abby Savage worked hard to plan everything and get people to events! Special thanks to everyone who helped with the parade, whether you decorated the truck, wore a costume in the parade, or handed out candy! It was quite a job, but the result was great and we had a fantastic time! Our banner was designed by Darby Heard and a lot of people helped to get it painted, so we appreciate all the helpers who stayed up later to get it done! And thank you to anyone who went to a homecoming event to sign in and get points for us! Who will our next victims I mean leaders be for Homecoming 2015....? #becausehonors
